Surgery Interrupted by Complications
According to preliminary findings, the surgery took place on June 8 in the Torrevecchia district. During the procedure, complications arose that forced the medical staff to halt the operation. Instead of immediately calling for an ambulance, the doctor, anesthesiologist, and nurse attempted to resuscitate the patient themselves. It was only after several hours that a private ambulance was contacted. Notably, there were no emergency calls recorded.
Investigation Underway
The capital’s prosecutor’s office has listed all three individuals—the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurse—as suspects in the involuntary manslaughter case. The clinic has been secured by investigators. Key questions revolve around the cause of death and the delay in calling for medical assistance.
The lead surgeon, 65-year-old Josè Lizarraga Picciotti from Peru, is a controversial figure. He previously worked in Milan and promoted his services on social media as “the best in the Italian market in terms of price and quality.” The investigation revealed that he had prior convictions for bodily harm reported by patients following surgeries in 2006 and 2018.
Dangerous Trends in Cosmetic Surgery
The death of Ana Sergia Alcivar Chenche is not the first such case in Rome. In November 2022, 22-year-old Margaret Spada died following a rhinoplasty performed by surgeons Marco and Marco Antonio Procopio in a private practice in the EUR district.
A similar fate befell 62-year-old Simonetta Kalfus from Andria, who died from severe sepsis following liposuction surgery.
