Businesswoman dies after undergoing six cosmetic surgeries in eight hours

Posted on November 12, 2025

A young businesswoman died after undergoing six surgeries in eight hours. Viviane Lira Monte, 24, suffered for 22 days following her operation, which she initially approached with the intention of having “just two touch-ups.” The police are investigating her death as “suspicious,” and her husband reported that the doctor convinced her to undergo four additional procedures.

The tragic incident occurred in Sobral, Ceará, Brazil. The victim was operated on August 31, after consulting a doctor she found online. According to her family, she only wanted two cosmetic enhancements, but the specialist suggested four more and offered her a discount, which she accepted.

Viviane underwent a marathon surgery that included breast reduction and liposuction on her abdomen, arms, back, and chin. The surgeon then transferred the fat from the liposuction to her buttocks for a more prominent appearance.

After the surgery, she returned home but could only stay for 15 hours before experiencing severe discomfort throughout her body. Her family reported that Viviane suffered “agonizing pain,” prompting them to take her to a local hospital.

Upon examination by healthcare professionals, it was discovered that her blood pressure had collapsed, and she was urgently transferred to a more advanced hospital, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

She remained there for 22 days until September 26, when she ultimately died due to an abdominal infection that led to heart failure. The Civil Police of the Sobral Municipal Police Station are now investigating her death as “suspicious,” according to local media reports.

Renan Santiago, Viviane’s husband, is devastated by the events and is demanding justice. In an interview with Brazilian media, he stated that “she vomited blood, recovered, but was never stable.” He added that “there was a lot of inflammation and infection due to the surgery. She couldn’t breathe, but they managed to resuscitate her and intubated her, yet she couldn’t come back.”

Since that August 31 surgery, their lives have been a nightmare. “We watched her die slowly. It was 22 days of suffering without good news. Every day, she spoke to us in a very weak voice and struggled to breathe. She knew she was dying,” Santiago recounted.

The most disturbing aspect of this tragedy is that, according to Santiago, his wife went to the consultation with one idea and left with another. He claims the doctor persuaded Viviane to undergo more surgeries than she originally wanted, even offering her a discount to do so.

The surgeon charged $55,000. However, when complications arose in Viviane’s health, he disappeared. “He saw that she was in bad shape but went to Rio de Janeiro. He abandoned her and did not provide support,” Santiago alleged.

“When I contacted him and told him she was critically ill in the ICU, he assured me she would be fine, that it was just a matter of time, and that everything would turn out well,” Santiago recalled, clearly affected by the past month’s events.

The surgeon visited Viviane in the ICU just hours before her death. However, her family considers it unjust that he abandoned her during most of the post-operative process to go on a trip, especially given her condition. Local media sought a statement from the surgeon, but he declined to comment.
