Liposuction is Not on Top: Which Plastic Surgery is Now the Most Popular?

Posted on October 30, 2025

According to a global study, approximately 38 million plastic surgeries and non-surgical procedures were performed in 2024. These figures were announced at the World Congress in Singapore, which gathered experts in international aesthetic medicine. Here’s an overview of the most popular plastic surgeries.

Domestic Plastic Surgery Trends

Blepharoplasty Leads the Way

In 2024, blepharoplasty became the most common plastic surgery, surpassing liposuction for the first time. The number of facial surgeries increased by 4.3% compared to the previous year. Plastic surgeon Alexander Katkov noted that trends in Russian plastic surgery align with global standards. He emphasized that techniques are continuously improving and new technologies are emerging.

Historically, plastic surgery in Russia was primarily reconstructive, with limited options available until the early 2000s. However, there has been a significant shift, transforming it into a thriving beauty industry. The entry of private businesses has expanded the range of services and improved their quality. Today, numerous plastic clinics equipped with state-of-the-art technology can be found in any city, staffed by skilled professionals. This accessibility has naturally led to increased demand for these services.

The rise in popularity of blepharoplasty can be attributed to a change in the approach to the procedure. A few years ago, it involved aggressive removal of skin and fat, which often resulted in a loss of volume around the eyelids and an aged appearance. Excess skin was sometimes relocated to the upper eyelid, leading to a heavy look and even conditions like dry eye syndrome due to overly extensive skin removal.

Modern blepharoplasty focuses on rejuvenating not only the eyes but the entire periorbital area. This includes restoring skin tone, redistributing soft tissues around the eyebrows and between the brows, and addressing crow’s feet and bags under the eyes. The procedure has become effective, safe, and less invasive, contributing to its growing popularity.

Blepharoplasty is increasingly combined with other facial rejuvenation techniques. Surgeons now often use endoscopic tools that allow for operations through small incisions of 1-1.5 centimeters, with the process monitored via special cameras. This approach minimizes tissue trauma, leading to quicker recoveries and less noticeable scars.

The rising popularity of plastic surgery is also linked to broader societal changes. It has become fashionable to prioritize self-care, maintain a fresh and fit appearance, engage in sports, and eat healthily. As people work longer and continue their careers regardless of age, looking the part has become essential for self-esteem and competitiveness.

The demographic of plastic surgery patients has evolved, with an increasing number of young individuals seeking procedures. Their beauty ideals have shifted; fewer people aspire to exaggerated features and instead aim to enhance their unique traits without drastic changes. This trend has led to a significant increase in surgeries such as rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction, body sculpting, facial and body fat grafting, and chin and cheek surgeries.
