Regain Slimness and Highlight Beauty: 5 Questions for a Plastic Surgeon About Liposuction

Posted on December 2, 2025

Liposuction, the removal of subcutaneous fat, can enhance appearance, highlight natural facial and body lines, eliminate localized fat deposits, and even boost self-confidence. While this procedure has become quite common in the beauty industry, deciding to undergo surgery can still be challenging.

What areas of the body can liposuction be performed on?

Dmitry Neelov explained that both women and men seek liposuction for various reasons. Some aim to reduce waist size, while others want to eliminate excess volume in the cheeks. Traditionally, liposuction is associated with the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, but it is also performed on the back, arms, and legs, including knees and calves. Additionally, liposuction can be done on the face and neck.

Why is liposuction more effective than diets and exercise? How much fat can be removed in one procedure?

While liposuction does not address overall weight issues, it can help create a more proportionate figure. Certain areas of the body are more prone to accumulating subcutaneous fat, which can be difficult to lose even with weight loss, dieting, and regular exercise. Liposuction allows for the targeted removal of localized fat deposits. On average, up to 3–5 liters of fat can be removed in one procedure, but individual cases may vary.

Are the traces of liposuction noticeable? Can a natural effect be achieved?

Typically, the traces are minimal. With a skilled approach to the procedure and adherence to post-operative recommendations, excellent results can be achieved.

How quickly will results be visible, and how can they be maintained?

The visibility of results depends on the extent of the surgical intervention. The rehabilitation period after liposuction usually lasts from 6 to 12 months. Physiotherapy and cosmetic procedures may aid in recovery, as recommended by a physician. The results can be long-lasting if there are no significant weight fluctuations. Maintaining an active lifestyle, balanced diet, and overall health is crucial.

Is there a best time of year for the surgery?

Liposuction can be performed regardless of the season. However, one should consider the recovery period. For instance, wearing compression garments may be more comfortable in cooler weather. If planning a summer vacation, it is advisable to undergo liposuction in the winter.
