Andrey Pasechnik Discusses Unexpected Effects After Surgery
Fat cells are incapable of dividing, which can lead to disproportionate changes in volume after liposuction. Plastic surgeon Andrey Pasechnik explained this phenomenon in an interview.
Fat cells cannot divide. While other cells regenerate and tissues heal, fat cells do not replicate. Instead, nature has given them the ability to grow from small sizes to that of a watermelon. This evolutionary trait allows the body to store energy in fat cells for times when food is scarce, such as when hunting for mammoths. Therefore, it serves a compensatory purpose. In practice, however, we see that after performing liposuction, if patients do not maintain a healthy diet, the remaining fat cells can simply increase in size. In some areas, where the number of fat cells is already high, this can lead to disproportionate changes in volume,” the specialist explained.
Another important aspect, according to the doctor, is hormonal balance. Our bodies are subject to specific hormonal fluctuations, much like a conductor leading an orchestra. If a surgeon performs a procedure but the patient has hormonal imbalances, the results may not be stable.
He also emphasized that patients undergoing plastic surgery should avoid weight fluctuations of 3 kg or more in either direction, as this can cause the results to “melt away.”
“There are always three parties in the room: the patient, the doctor, and the patient’s problem. The outcome depends on which side the patient aligns with,” concluded Andrey Pasechnik.
